1.Outdoor Observational Painting

Whoop, whoop! Summer is here, and regardless of the ongoing pandemic, we need to keep the children in high spirits and engaged. Children always enjoy exploring paint; how it drips, covers, and mixes on surfaces. For this fun activity, all that is required is a large mirror as a canvass,( in my case, I used my IKEA hanging mirror), a recycled bottle as a vase and some flowers for inspiration.

2.Blow bubble Art

Summer and bubbles are synonymous, don't you think? Invite the children to have fun and create art at the same time. You will need a cup or bowl, food colouring, liquid dishwashing soap, straws and construction paper. Mix the water, liquid soap and food colouring together. No need for measurements, just prepare as much of the mixture as you require. Next, have the children blow bubbles into the cup using the straw and cover the bubbles with the white construction paper to make an imprint. My children were intrigued to see how the new colours created when the different coloured bubbles mixed.

3. Sharpie Marker drawings

Set up a fun drawing station with sharpie markers and papers. Invite your child to begin an exploration of lines by looking at books, works of art such as Pier Mondrian's famous "Composition with Red Blue and Yellow" painting, patterns in nature, and all lines in the environment. My eight -year old used different types of swirly, twirly, zig-zag, and straight to draw and create. Though my youngest writing is still emerging, he was eager to draw me several pictures, and they both spent some quality time together.
